Seven Songs…

I have tagged myself as I really don’t feel like blogging lately.
From Pete’s blog.

The rules:-
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.

I have been known for loving songs which no one else likes. In fact we all do, don’t we. People have different reasons for loving certain songs. Some times I just love the melody or the voice or the lyrics. Sometimes just the guitar in the song. But overall my choice is pretty common. I generally like main stream stuff. As will be confirmed from what I am listening to at present. In fact J always says I have the most common choice. He says I don’t have to like Bryan Adams or John Mayer just because everyone else does. But I genuinely love them and I don’t care what others think. I used to like some of Britney Spears numbers too. Ditto for my choice of other weird songs.

You were meant for me: Jewel.
This is the song I listen to most frequently.
I like everything about this song. The lyrics, the music and her voice. She really has a beautiful voice.

Kabul Express Theme music:
As the title suggests its only music but it has a completely different feel to it. Very unlike so many other instrumentals. It takes me to a different world altogether. And having loved the movie, I love the song even more. It reminds me of the vast and beautiful yet barren land of Afghanistan.

Any man of mine: Shania Twain
I heard this song on Discovery channel once when they were showing an hour long documentary on Shania Twain. I don’t know if anyone has watched it, but it’s a nice series where each episode covers one of the famous singers or bands and also tells you which song made them famous. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the series. This song was supposed to be the path breaking song of that time. It has got some spunky lyrics.

Minchaagi neenu: Sonu Nigam:
I love this song for 2 reasons. First it has an awesome melody and second it is sung by my all time fav Sonu Nigam. He gives any song, especially romantic songs a completely different flavor.
Moreover, this is a kannada song (language of Bangalore), a language which I do not understand at all. Yet I love this song. Heard it the first time when I came to Bangalore on my roommate’s laptop who is a kannada.

Bleeding for love: Leona Lewis:
Actually this was one of my roommate’s favorite songs. She saw the video once on VH1 and since then all she used to watch and make us watch was VH1 so that she could get to hear the song again. Somehow she had missed the song or the Artist name. She finally managed to download it. After hearing it so frequently the song has kind of grown on me. Also, I went to see this dance performance by one of J’s friends and a couple had performed a fast but romantic dance to this song. I like it even more since then.
And looks like this the only latest song in my list.

Shelter: Ray Lamontagne:
I had read about this artist on some blog. I googled him and downloaded a few songs from his official website. I love that his songs only have guitar as background. It really enhances his voice and the music.

Mera kuch samaan: Asha Bhosle
If you ask me my one favorite of all time, I would say this is the one. We all know how difficult it is to choose one song from so many others.
Badly translated it means, ‘Some of my luggage (stuff) is with you’. Okay, don’t laugh. I said it was bad translation. But those who haven’t heard this, I can say, without batting an eyelid, that out of thousands of songs I have heard, this one has the best lyrics ever. And there is absolutely no parallel to Asha Bhosale. She was and still, at an age above 75, still one of the best singers.

That’s it, I guess. I can go on and on. I really enjoyed writing this post.
I have to tag 7 people but really those want to do it please go ahead. It will be fun knowing your 7 songs.

  1. Hi Violet!

Interesting Meme, I’m not sure that I could find 7 songs in particular, I have an awful tendancy to just turn on the Radio and listen to whatever is on!

    I’ll have to think!

  2. I like it when people go for unusual songs! Don’t think I know any of these…

Also impressed you managed to get Britney Spears to comment on your blog, too…! 😉

  3. Huw: You should really listen to Kabul Express theme music. It’s beautiful. I’ll give you a download link if I find one.
Hey btw, I am not able to access any of the 20six blogs. I don’t know what’s wrong. I have sent a mail to Pete, let’s see what happens.

  4. Cool. I’ll try and check it out…

They’ve gone over onto a new platform at 20six so I guess the problem’s something to do with that…

If anyone can fix it, Super-Pete can!
