BTT: Other Worlds

I really like this Thursdays BTT post.
Are there any particular worlds in books where you’d like to live?
The Harry Potter world. Sorry but that’s the first thing that comes to my mind. Talking letters, owls as pets, flying broomsticks, teachers who turn into animals, a school as great, everything thing except ‘You know who’. And may be one of Nora Roberts magical novels set in Ireland. Meeting my handsome Prince and fighting the demons with him.
Another novel that comes to my mind is ‘Pride and Prejudice’. I mean I am not really interested in the other stuff, but I wish I could be Elizabeth and just live the Mr. Darcy part. I remember he was my first book crush before Rhett from ‘Gone with the wind’.
Don’t I sound (read) absolutely shallow?

Or where you certainly would NOT want to live?
Easy. The books that come to my mind are, ‘A thousand splendid suns’, ‘The book Thief’, ‘Not without my daughter’, ‘A million little pieces’. Many actually. It’s good to read about people who face difficult situations with courage and inner strength and emerge triumphant, but I would not wish lives like Laila, Mariam and Max even to my enemies.

What about authors? If you were a character, who would you trust to write your life?
I think Jodi Picoult. I love the way she writes. I love the depth and sensitivity of her writing, her way with words. Her first novel I read was ‘The tenth circle’. Though many people said it’s not that great a book, I liked it because it was my first and I loved her writing style. Then I read ‘My sisters keeper’ and fell in love with her. Now I plan to read everything written by Jodi Picoult. Say amen to that.

  1. Harry Potter’s world would be fun!
I know what you mean about Pride and Prejudice. As lovely as the story is, being an 18th century woman would have some downsides.

  2. Jennifer: The first thing that comes to my mind when i think of 18th century women are the dresses, of course after the in equality issues 🙂

Pete: I wish you were a girl. You have missed having a crush on the most charming men in the literary world 🙂

  3. Great answers (I totally agree about Harry Potter’s world) but I wouldn’t want my life to be the type of story that Picoult writes. If my life is that sad, I don’t think I would want it recorded for all posterity.

  4. Violet – What is the title of one of Nora Roberts’ magical novels? I am very curious in checking them out. That world in particular sounds like a great choice. Me, I want to live right where I am, but I would love to go and visit some of the other worlds.

And no you don’t sound shallow at all! Such a strong part of my enjoyment of reading comes from well crafted love stories. I am not a big Picoult fan and I recently blogged why. But I think she is an exceptionally good writer compared to many other best sellers. I will likely read more of her books. The last one I read was The Pact.

  5. Aria: I understood the question as If i was to write a story about my life, then who would I want to write it as apposed to who would write my story? If the later was the case, me too would not want Jodi Picoult to write my story. It would be incredibly sad.

Gautami: I guess most of us would love to stay where we are. But most of us will also agree that we read for escapism even we are living a dream. Its good to imagine 🙂

Pete: Ah..yes, you’ll survive, you have your Scarlett J. after all 🙂

    Thanks Carol.

Megan: The name of Nora Roberts site is http://www.noraroberts.com. You can refer to her books there. She writes romance mainly. And most of her books which are based on magic are trilogies, but they are worth it. If you like romance and magic and Ireland, you should definitely try one of her books.
