Gluttony!!!

Book Gluttony! Are your eyes bigger than your book belly? Do you have a habit of buying up books far quicker than you could possibly read them? Have you had to curb your book buying habits until you can catch up with yourself? Or are you a controlled buyer, only purchasing books when you have run out of things to read?

Ha…yes, I buy books much much much faster than I can read them. My reading speed is very slow; it’s like 50 pages an hour. And I don’t get more than an hour to read everyday. So it takes me a week to read a 300 pages book. But sometimes I do read a lot. Like last month I read 13 books (don’t ask me how).

I have divided my bookshelf into 2 parts, read and unread. That’s as far as I can manage it. And obviously there is absolutely no space in my “to-read” section whereas the “read” section can accommodate at least 40 books more.

I have more than enough books to last me for a couple of years or more. But I don’t hold back on buying books. I do hold back on ARC’s though because a tall ARC pile will give me unnecessary tension. Having said that I like to have a lot of options for my next read.

So book gluttony??? Oh, yes!!!
But I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily a bad thing 🙂

  1. I don’t really have a TBR pile because, well, as soon as I get a book I read it hehe. Still, I think that falls under being a book glutton 😀

  2. I can’t make myself keep a separate TBR pile; I would feel too pressured, and I have a knee-jerk resistance to pressure. I have to hide them amongst my already read books, and surprise myself!

  3. You’re right, a tall ARC pile is more stressful than another book pile. Those HAVE to get read, whereas my own books can sit and wait until I’m in just the right mood for them.

  4. Definitely not a bad thing. I’m a slow reader too and it usually takes me a week to finish off a book which then needs to settle into my brain before I move on.

  5. I’m not telling how many books are in my TBR pile – it’s a little bit embarrassing. But yes, I am a glutton!

  6. I am the same way, but instead of buying I borrow from the local library. I always borrow too many though and always have to bring back books that I haven’t read. But I keep them on my TBR list with the hope that I will borrow it again or break down and buy it!

  7. My TBR pile is huge, and new ones arrive every week, adding to it. And then, I have this habit of reserving too many books at the library and not having enough time to read them all before they need to go back.

  8. I’m actually being good on my ‘book fast’ – no new ones til I’ve read the “ones to read” pile… It’s hard going avoiding bookshops though…

  9. Hi, found your blog through my blog!

My TBR pile is huge. HUGE. I’ve also separated my shelf into read and unread. I think I have more unread than read! I keep saying I’m going to stop buying them but if it’s a new one that I’ve waited ages for I can’t resist! Oh dear… I’m a definite book glutton!

  10. Aww, dang it! I missed a BTT question that was aimed right at me! or rather, my Mt. TBR 😀

BTW, email me your address, you won my copy of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet 😀

  11. Sorry I’m so late in my response–just realized tomorrow will be another Booking Through Thursday! Where does the time go?

Anyway, I’m a glutton as well, but I’m lucky to read 50 pages an hour! I think I average around 40 (easily distracted). With my current read, Middlemarch, it is closer to 25 pages an hour! 🙂

To me there is something comforting to be surrounded by books–until I realize I’ll never read them (but I try not to think about that!). Have a great week!

  12. i have a book basket where I keep all of my must reads. I couldn’t begin to imagine a world without books. I have so many friends that never read anything but I am a book glutton too. I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend ♥
