Friday Finds and Book Coveting!!!

friday_findsThis is my first time participating in Friday finds. Mostly I feel like reading every alternate book I see. But sometimes, I stumble upon books that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
This week I have 2 books in Friday Finds.

MistressoftheGame-HCFirst is supposed to be a sequel to Sidney’s Sheldon’s Master of the Game. Surprised? I was too when I got Sidney Sheldon newsletter in my Inbox. For a second I thought he might have written this book before his death and is just being published. But then after reading the entire thing it seems like it’s not. It’s called Mistress of the Game by Tilly Bagshawe.

I’m a huge fan of Sidney Sheldon or at least I was in college. I have read every single book of his. I was really sad when he expired. Do you think this sequel is a ploy to cache in on Sidney Sheldon’s popularity? I hope not. I would be reading this book anyway. It would give me a chance to brush up on Master of the Game.

The second book is Magic And The Modern Girl by Mindy Klasky. I found this on the FreshFiction NewsLetter.

Men come and go, but magic is forever … right?
Wrong. After a few months of letting witchcraft slide, Jane Madison discovers that not using her powers has her rapidly losing them. Meanwhile, her warder is avoiding her, her familiar has moved out, her mother is abandoning her again, and her grandmother is … getting married? With her world turned topsy-turvy, Jane is at her wits’ end trying to set things right. Staking everything on a a last-ditch spell that backfires spectacularly, Jane is left full of questions. Will her powers return? Will she find true love? Will she talk her grandmother out of orange and silver bridesmaids’ dresses?
What magic does the future hold for this modern girl?
Magic and the Modern Girl combines the humor and single-girl angst of Bridget Jones’s Diary with the fantasy magic of Harry Potter (for grown-ups!).

Somehow I cannot take my eyes of the cover. You’ve got to love the color purple or lavender or violet, whatever you feel like calling it. I’m mostly color blind when it comes to distinguishing between the various shades of one color.

I had also seen a cover on Shelf Awareness about a book that was a memoir and had something to do with Japan. I also remember seeing the Wikipedia link of the author. But I don’t remember the name and considering how interested I was in that book, it feels odd. If someone knows the name please do let me know. It was somewhere in the last seven days of Shelf Awareness issues.

Edit: Found it. It’s called Private Papers of Eastern Jewel by Maureen Lindley.

There is also a meme for Book Coveting right? Well, I can’t find it, so I’ll just tell you what all books I have been wanting to read for some time.
First is Ruined by Paula Morris
Amazon: Rebecca couldn’t feel more out of place in New Orleans, where she comes to spend the year while her dad is traveling. She’s staying in a creepy old house with her aunt. And at the snooty prep school, the filthy-rich girls treat Rebecca like she’s invisible. Only gorgeous, unavailable Anton Grey seems to give Rebecca the time of day, but she wonders if he’s got a hidden agenda. Then one night, in Lafayette Cemetery, Rebecca makes a friend. Sweet, mysterious Lisette is eager to talk to Rebecca, and to show her the nooks and crannies of the city. There’s just one catch: Lisette is a ghost. A ghost with a deep, dark secret, and a serious score to settle. As Rebecca learns more from her ghost friend – and as she slowly learns to trust Anton Grey – she also uncovers startling truths about her own history. Will Rebecca be able to right the wrongs of the past, or has everything been ruined beyond repair?

Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran.
Synopsis (excerpt): Based on meticulous research, Cleopatra’s Daughter is a fascinating portrait of imperial Rome and of the people and events of this glorious and most tumultuous period in human history. Emerging from the shadows of the past, Selene, a young woman of irresistible charm and preternatural intelligence, will capture your heart.
I’ve read Nefertiti and The Heretic Queen and loved both. You have to love the covers of Michelle Moran’s books.

That’s it for now. I can actually go on and on and on and on. Is there ever a limit to how many books you can covet or find?

  1. You’ve got some interesting reading there. And the covers are really attractive too. I haven’t heard of a Book Coveting meme but I sure understand the concept. 🙂 Nice FF post. Mine is up too.

  2. Good finds! I always think its cheating a little to use a renowned author’s name on the cover of a book by somebody else. Sort of like Scarlett..the “sequel’ to Gone With the Wind! I did love Sidney Sheldon, I hope the sequel is as good!

  3. I didn’t know about the new Sidney Sheldon, it sounds good. I have a Tilly Bagshawe book, but haven’t read it yet. Ruined sounds great and Cleopatra’s Daughter is on my list. My Friday Finds are here
